JB Transport and The Heavy Haul Industry

Last week we looked a little bit at the heavy haul industry. It’s been a quite some time since we rooted around in the old heavy haul bag and explored some of the intriguing things that the heavy haul industry has to offer. Having embarked on so many different kinds of hauls, the industry is replete with interesting and bizarre hauls, the kind that require the superior capabilities of expert freight transport carriers. In the past, we’ve explored everything from wind power to the world of telescopes. This week we’re going to revisit a story we looked at several months ago about heavy haul and outer space. I know, it seems like an unlikely pair, the heavy haul industry being as landlocked as they come, the space travel industry being, well, just that, space travel. Well, although these industries might not seem like they could be further apart, they actually share something pretty significant. They both deal with things of massive size.

This is the home turf of heavy haul. The enormous size, cumbersome shape, and sheer value of some of the components that make up a shuttle or rocket (including the rocket or shuttle itself for that matter) can require that a vehicle as specialized and as heavy duty be brought in to move things around. At the space shuttle launch site, there are countless needs for freight transport of every variety. On site, most typically, there is the demand for massive heavy haul rigs designed to carry the specialized parts of the rocket. There are even vehicles designed specifically to carry the finished rocket or shuttle. Now, this is no ordinary freight transport vehicle. No, this is a highly engineered, extremely specialized piece of equipment that was built to carry a very specific and very important payload. The precision and great care that must be taken with some of these non-divisible loads is pretty incredible and makes for a good story every time it comes around.
