Why do people think that BJJ and Muay Thai is the best martial arts there are?
I knew a TKD fighter who was well trained and just for two years but could spar with the best of them. Why does everyone cut TKD down along with kung fu and karate and think that muay thai and BJJ is so much better than all other arts? are they just UFC fanatics that never have done a mertial art before?
There are no best martial arts, they all have strengths and weaknesses. Many people believe Muay Thai and BJJ are superior to TKD, Karate, and Kung Fu because there are much more accounts of the previous arts beating the latter arts in a fight. If you took all the practitioners of Muay Thai and BJJ, and then you took all the practitioners of Kung Fu, TKD, and Karate and averaged them together, Muay Thai and BJJ would win more often than not. Its not really debatable, all of the real TMA practitioners know that the McDojos give them a bad name, and thats starting to happen with MMA now too.
I believe that real TMA’s are great and effective but all the McDojos that teach crappy fighting reinforce the belief that MMAs are better than TMAs. That could very well change because McGyms are starting to give real MMA a bad name too.
The thing that really makes a difference though is full contact. If you don’t learn in full contact, the odds of you winning a fight against someone that does are drastically lower. MMA teaches in full contact, many TMA do not. I’m not dissing TMA’s but its true that a lot of them use minimal or half contact.
